Performances in Greensboro are June 26-2the playwright. Common Thread Theatre Collective (CTTC) is giving focus to the origin of theatre productions by beginning at the beginning with the playwright. The work of the playwright is central to the world of theatre. They are originator, interpreter and voice of individual communities and institutions. Playwrights have the power to write stories that reflect and shape our culture. Through their writing, they introduce audiences to new ideas, perspectives, and experiences, challenge societal norms, and encourage critical thinking.
For two weekends each night CTTC will shine a spotlight on a different playwright, presenting a directed and rehearsed reading of their play. This unique event offers audiences a rare opportunity to witness fresh, original stories from voices in their own community. From gripping dramas to heartfelt comedies, each evening promises to deliver a distinct theatrical experience. After each reading, there will be a discussion, inviting the audience to engage with the playwrights, directors, and actors. Come celebrate local talent, discover new stories, and connect with the creative voices shaping our community’s artistic landscape.
Common Thread Theatre Collective is excited to announce a new works festival! As we enter our fourth season, Common Thread Is giving focus to our local playwrights from North Carolina. We are accepting submissions of new work from now until April 25, 2025. Selected pieces will receive approximately 15 hours of rehearsal as well as two readings in Davidson at the Barber Theatre and two readings in Greensboro at the Paul Robeson Theatre. Each piece will be assigned a creative team including a director and stage manager as well as a qualified cast. A post show discussion to receive feedback from audience members. Playwrights will be compensated $500.
