New Works Festival

We are thrilled to announce our two shows for this season's new works festival!

  

The Race, written by Brian Daye is about an African American criminal defense attorney agrees to represent a White Supremacist Death Row Inmate falsely accused of murder. The attorney is the White Supremacist’s last hope for a clemency appeal before the inmate is scheduled to die by lethal injection at midnight on Christmas Eve morning. 


Massage Group Therapy, by David Schoenfeld, centers around four female massage therapists who face challenges like blurred boundaries, emotional labor, and client entitlement, affecting their work and personal lives. They explore the meaning of healing while focusing on self-protection. Through mutual support, they reclaim

Meet the Playwrights!

Brian Daye - The Race

Actor/director/playwright/producer based in Charlotte. Actor for over forty years, playwright, director and producer for over twenty years. Wrote the original play “ONE IN THE SPIRIT”, which toured NC, VA & GA, and the one-man show, “HEY YOU!! An Afrostereophonicjourney”, performed in New York, Los Angeles, Cornelius, and Charlotte, NC. Latest work, “BY ANY OTHER NAME - An Opus for James Baldwin”, premiered at Charlotte’s Off-Broadway’s Black Box Theatre in 2025. Additional directing experience - “TRIBE” and “HOME”/OnQ Productions, “August Wilson’s FENCES”/Lee Street Theatre and “MEMPHIS The Musical”/Hickory Community Theatre. Co-owner of DAYELIGHT LLC, a producing LLC. 


David Schoenfeld - Massage Group Therapy

David is a “second act” playwright, having recently retired from a thoroughly satisfying medical career as a dermatologist.  His plays range from heartfelt comedies to political satire, to concept driven ensemble pieces. With a background rooted in science and empathy, he brings a unique perspective to character and dialogue, creating works that balance wit, insight, and emotional authenticity.
